Christian Magel (40) is Chief Marketing Officer and founder of amaysim, Australia’s first low cost mobile service provider dedicated to delivering simplicity, fairness and low prices to mobile consumers with its customer centric mobile services and low cost guarantee.
An international marketing expert and entrepreneur, Christian is a Founding Partner of Shark Holding GmbH, an investment and management company that combines extensive knowledge in business strategy, marketing, sales, operations and finance, with investment intelligence in the online and telecommunications market sector.
Shark Holdings’ first venture, simyo, was launched in 2005 and became the world’s largest online based mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), operating in Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. As Chief Marketing Officer and Founder of simyo, Christian was responsible for creating and developing the simyo brand, as well as the overall marketing strategy and sales activities in all simyo territories.
Following a successful earn-out period in 2010, Christian and the founding team decided to embark on a new entrepreneurial challenge, with Shark Holding as their investment vehicle, launching amaysim in Australia.
Between 2002 and 2005 Christian was an independent marketing consultant operating as Magel Media Consulting. Christian also was the European Marketing Director at letsbuyit.com where he was responsible for brand, communications and sales in the e-commerce arena. Furthermore, he worked in senior marketing roles ProSieben Digital Media, Entertainment Media Verlag, Bertelsmann and Club RTL, where he was responsible for the development of communication and product strategies.
Christian studied at the European Business School, Schloss Reichartshausen in Oestrich-Winkel, Germany, graduating with a Diploma of Economics, specialising in marketing.
In his spare time Christian enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing soccer and running.
